Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek signed House Bill 2789 into law May 28, allowing registered nurses to bill Medicaid directly for certain care-management services.
The new law will take effect Jan. 1, 2026, and permits licensed registered nurses to seek reimbursement for covered services if the services are within their scope of practice, the patient is enrolled in Medicaid and the patient does not have a primary care provider.Â
The Oregon Health Authority, which oversees the state’s Medicaid program, will determine which specific services are eligible and develop the necessary billing and documentation protocols.
